My kitchen sink is not draining properly.

Replaced sink. Drain is not clogged. Has a garbage disp.. water backs up into sink and goes right down when the garbage disp. is turned on. Seems like it might be air locked?
If it is not a clog in the trap, it could be a clog in the disposer itself. Is it a new disposer?
