Yard Makeover Contest Winner

The team at PlanItDIY.com has selected Angela MacOwan’s great DIY project, Creating a Mini Koi Pond, as the winner of our recent Yard Makeover Contest!
From the entries we received, we found Angela’s to be the most unique project and best transformation of yard space. For her effort, Angela enjoyed a $250 shopping spree on Aug. 23 at the local independent hardware store where she purchased all the essential products for her DIY project: Allendale True Value Hardware in Allendale, Michigan.
Locally owned and operated since 1992, Allendale True Value prides itself on a well-trained staff that is readily available to assist with DIY projects, both large and small. Angela’s experience with the store was easy and productive. “Allendale Hardware had the rocks, sand and the rental equipment I needed to make my pond dreams come true,” she says. Store owner Chad Ayers adds, “I’m very happy that Angela’s project turned out to her satisfaction, and I am equally happy that Allendale True Value could provide all the assistance she needed.”
Not that she is fishing for compliments, but Angela is pretty proud of her backyard koi pond these days. The result of big dreams and precise planning, she dove into the DIY project and never looked back. Currently, the koi pond is home to two koi, a fan-tailed goldfish and an abundance of frogs. Angela added plants and flowers, including water lilies and rush, to give the pond an esthetic element. “I have been able to make the pond self-sustaining and beautiful,” says Angela. “It’s hard to believe this koi pond is in the middle of a suburb.”
