Feed the Birds: Making a Bird Feeder

Help the birds in your yard stay fed and happy by making a milk carton bird feeder with your kids. Keep it filled with birdseed and you may make some new friends this summer!
You Will Need:
- 1 large milk carton, cleaned
- Scissors
- Pencil or hole punch
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Craft sticks
- Glue
- Dowel rod
- Birdseed
- Twine
(Look for a paintbrush, glue, dowel rod, birdseed and twine at your local hardware store!)
Directions:
1. Cut door-shaped opening about halfway up in two opposite sides of the milk carton.
2. Use a pencil or hole punch to make two holes in the flap at the top of the carton for hanging.
3. Poke a hole with the pencil or hole punch under each of the door-shaped openings for the dowel rod.
4. Glue craft sticks to the top of the carton to make roof shingles. Let your kids decorate the bird feeder with paint.
5. Slide the dowel rod through the holes so the birds will have somewhere to perch while they eat.
6. Fill the bottom of the carton with birdseed. You can buy some at the store or make your own from a combination of nuts and seeds such as yellow corn, sunflower seeds, and raisins.
7. To hang: Thread the twine through the holes at the top and knot. Hang the feeder from a sturdy tree branch.
